🌻scrappy handmade keychains🌻

✨🌷SPRING PINK🌷✨

✨these keychains are created in small batches using fabric scraps and repurposed material from a variety of sources. i utilize a few different processes to create these: first i choose from fabrics that i already have on hand (my stash contains fabrics of various sizes, new and thrifted, scraps from old projects, and a variety of other places) and decide which colors and patterns will work well together. then, after i braid the fabric scraps together, i use a combination of sewing on my machine and sewing by hand to form the shape of the keychain. each piece is unique and comes with it’s own character, the beauty of handmade! ✨

✨COLOR THEME: 🌷spring pink🌷

✨FEATURES: sewn with a loop to hang your keychain on a hook + a space for carrying with your hand/placing around your wrist

✨MORE CONTEXT FOR THE CURIOUS:

there are so many interesting methods that people have developed to reuse and repurpose materials, especially the fiber art community. one day i came across a method that excited me, one which demonstrated how to attach strips of material together to make longer strands of fabric “yarn”, rope, etc..

as i played around with this process for a while, i was interested in how different combinations of colors and fabric patterns could look when braided together.  there are so many potential uses for this braided “rope” of material that comes from this process, but the first thing i decided to try making was keychains (i actually made my first prototype in 2021 and i’m still using it today!) after a little experimenting with sewing a few different keychain designs, i was finally happy with the design you see pictured here in these photos✨

✨A NOTE ABOUT MATERIALS:

if i know 100% what something is made from, i will always include that information. it is important to me to prioritize natural fibers and an overwhelming majority of the materials i work with are natural, especially fabrics, yarns, threads etc.  however, it is also important to me to find creative ways to use materials even if they aren’t natural and if it’s something i already have on hand. whenever i purchase new materials (or “new to me” from a thrift store) i always look for natural materials first! but sometimes i just can’t tell what something is made of OR i know it’s synthetic but it’s still something i feel inspired to use✨
